One fine weekend, Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson went on a camping trip in the countryside. In the middle of the night, Watson was awakened by Holmes tapping him on the shoulder. Holmes said, "Watson, look up at the sky and tell me what you see."
Watson observed the sky and said; "I see thousands and thousands of stars, and a full moon, and a few small clouds." "And what does that tell you?” asked Holmes. Watson thought for a moment, eager to make an impression on the great detective. "Well," he began, "Astronomically, it tells me that there are many stars and probably planets other than our own in the universe, and that the shadow of the Earth is not presently obscuring the Moon."
"Meteorologically," Watson continued, "It tells me that the weather is clear, and that we will probably have a beautiful sunny day tomorrow, if a bit cool." "And," said Watson, pleased with imself, "Theologically, it implies that the creation of God is vast, and we are very small in the scheme of eternity." Holmes studied the sky in silence for a moment and said, "Watson, you bonehead. It tells us that some bastard has stolen our tent!"
